Ammachi Palace is located near Kuttikkanam.

History of ammachi kottaram

A small summer retreat of the wife of the erstwhile Maharaja of Travancore. Popularly known as ‘Ammachi Kottaram’, the palace was built upon the ghat at Glenrock Estate and was opened by J D Munro. The term ‘Ammachi’ literally means Mother.

However in this case, the title ‘Ammachi’ was  held by the morganatic consorts of the ruling Maharajah of Travancore as well as other title holding male members of the Travancore Royal Family. This is because as per the formerly existent matriarchal system in Travancore, the Maharaja’s sister was the Maharani, and not his wife. Thus the wife, a non-royal, took the title of ‘Ammachi’.The mother house is about 210 years old.

The palace is made of wooden planks. The beauty of the floor is the flooring. The palace has been used for the construction of exterior lamps, bathrooms and tiles. The long quarters, the patio, the bedrooms, the dining room, the spacious living room, the dining room and the kitchen are still royal. There are mainly two halls, three bedrooms and two corridors in addition to the kitchen. It is thought that a corridor was meant for the servants to enter the various parts of the palace. Another underground road is to the Peermede Sri Krishna Temple.

The Ammachi Palace is located on 25 acres of land. The palace has been infested with minor defects in its protection. Today, the palace is in the hands of private individuals.

The Malayalam movie Carbon(2017) has used Ammachi Kottaram as one of the main locations and Lucifer, indriyam etc

The tiled and steeply pitched roof adorns the building, with peaked roof tops standing on walls on the eastern and western flanks built like a fortress. The high laden building has steps with scalloped ledges which is a curious mixture of local styles and English architecture. This spacious home has lofty domed ceiling made of wood . There is a master piece wood work, separating the dining room from the drawing room The split leveled garden is landscaped with a green lawn fringed on the southern side with trees like Norfolk, pine, cypress, blue gums and spathodia.

The thick foliages which lazily let the sun rays sieve through them, makes us feel the embrace of nature. The westerly wind sweep across the drawing room, set majestically with large doors among spans of glass running the full southern side. Parunthumpara

Kuttikkanam, idukki, kerala

Parunthumpara is a village in the indianstate of kerala’s idukki District. It is a small scenic location near wagemon en route to Peerumedu . Parunthin Para also known as ‘Parunthumpara’ (the eagle rock). From here, the Makarajyothi of Sabarimala is visible. The main attractions of Parunthumpara are Suicide Point and Tagor Head (a rock that appears to have the shape of Tagor, an Indian poet’s, head). A nearby tourist spot is  Thekkady.

Eagle Rock

Parunthumpara is a small village, located between peermade and Thekkady. The word parunth in the local language means Eagle and para means rock. It is called Parunthumpara or eagle rock because of a large area around like an eagle. It is 6 km from Peermade, 25 km from Thekkady and 3 km From nationalhighway 220.(Peermade kottayam kumily road). This area provides a bird’s eye view of an endless stretch of green forest land and low-lying areas. Parunthumpara is six km from Peerumade on National Highway 220 and is increasingly being visited by tourists who are on their way to Thekkady and others as well. If the sky is clear, visitors can get the view of the sabarimala forests.

Easily accessible through the narrow ghat road from Kallar Junction, this hill station stands out for its sprawling grasslands where the families can enjoy a few quiet moments, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. A perfect choice for those who wish to have a holiday off the beaten track and to explore the unseen and the unexplored beauty of the pristine forests around, Parunthumpara has been attracting a large number of domestic tourists during weekends.

Though the place is yet to be included in the tourism map of the district, the place can stand up to any other hill stations.

However, the steep hills also pose a threat to reckless visitors. There are a few deep slopes and one should be careful while visiting Parunthumpara.

The District Tourism Promotion Council plans to develop Parunthumpara as a hill station and as a stopover place for tourists who come from Kumarakom to Thekkady. There are two main roads through which the domestic and international tourists reach the district — from Nedumbassery to Munnar and from Kumarakom to Thekkady. Between these main tourism destinations, there are a few must-see places and Parunthumpara had been identified as one among them. But this place lacks basic facilities like lodging and boarding

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
